International Talk Like a Pirate Day – September 19th

Date: 19 Sep 2016

All hands on deck! Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so it’s time to batten down the hatches and greet everyone with an “ahoy, matey!”

This annual event was started back in 1995 when a game of racquetball resulted in someone reacting to pain with an outburst of “aaaaarrrr!” That really is how the idea came about! It first started off as an inside joke between John Baur and Mark Summers, but 7 years later the holiday gained exposure when John and Mark sent a letter about their special day to an American columnist, Dave Berry. Berry promoted the day, and then slowly but surely it became a viral event!
