The NHS states that breastfeeding has many long-term benefits for your baby, lasting right into adulthood. They recommend that nothing but breast milk is given to your baby for about the first six months (26 weeks) of your baby's life, and after that they recommend giving your baby breast milk alongside family foods for the first two years, or for as long as you and your baby want. They state that this will help them grow and develop healthily.
Benefits of breastfeeding:
• your breast milk is perfectly designed for your baby
• breast milk protects your baby from infections and diseases
• breastfeeding provides health benefits for you
• breast milk is available for your baby whenever your baby needs it
• breastfeeding can build a strong emotional bond between you and your baby
At Bright Horizons, we support mums who wish to continue breastfeeding their child once she/he has started at one our nurseries. We understand how daunting it can be when returning to work to change a routine as well as settling your baby hence giving mums full support during with her choice of carrying on with breastfeeding with this transition is part of common practice. Whilst each nursery is different, if you wish to come in and breastfeed you child, please talk with the nursery staff who will create a quiet and relaxing area where you can come in and feed your child. Alternatively, if you wish to express your breast milk we are able to store this to use when your child is due for their feed.
For example Bright Horizons Millhouses
won Sheffield’s Breastfeeding Friendly Awards for creating a friendly environment and allowing local mums to breastfeed their babies if they need to.
