Thanksgiving is a national holiday and is celebrated in America on the fourth Thursday of November annually.
As well as having over 200 nurseries here in the UK, Bright Horizons are proud to have 600 nurseries in the US, and Thanksgiving is celebrated throughout our American nurseries.
Some of our nurseries in America celebrate Thanksgiving with each age group room having a dinner with parents, children and nursery staff. Keeping it to each individual room keeps numbers low, making it similar to a small family gathering, which allows everyone to talk and get to know each other better. Each parent provides a dish for the meal that is representative of their culture or family traditions.
In addition, lots of nurseries host a fundraiser for either canned goods or ‘donate a toy’ initiatives, which they donate within their local communities to help those who are less fortunate during the holidays.
Last week at Beacon Hill Nursery in Boston, parents were invited to join the children and staff for a Thanksgiving Pie afternoon. The children and staff worked together to make the pies in the morning, with the preschool children making handmade centre pieces to decorate the tables.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
