Bristol nursery children squeeze their own orange juice
Date: 12 Sep 2019
Children at Bright Horizons Bristol Day Nursery and Preschool have been showing an interest in where their food comes from and how it is produced.
As a result, the children decided to make orange juice after staff provided them with oranges, containers and juicers. They found that oranges can be peeled, segmented and juiced.
“We used measuring containers and funnels to decant the juice then find out how much we were making from each orange,” said Deputy Nursery Manager Lucy Cragg. “Children also counted segments from oranges and used their fine motor skills to peel the fruits themselves. We tasted the juice we had made and also made them into ice lollies. There was further discussion on how other fruits are made into juice through different processes.”
