Sutton nursery receives ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted
Date: 12 Nov 2018
Bright Horizons North Cheam Day Nursery and Preschool in Sutton has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ after receiving its recent Ofsted inspection.
The nursery received its inspection on October 3rd and was rated as ‘Outstanding’ in all four areas of inspection: Effectiveness of the leadership and management; Quality of teaching, learning and assessment; Personal development, behaviour and welfare; Outcomes for children. The ‘Outstanding’ is also an improvement on the ‘Good’ rating the nursery last received from Ofsted four years ago.
Inspection activities included the inspector observing the interaction between staff and children during activities both indoors and outdoors. Comments from the Ofsted report included:
- Staff teach children exceptional early mathematics skills. For example, the children sort and group objects very skilfully, count accurately, and have excellent understanding and use of mathematical language.
- Staff manage children’s behaviour very successfully. They use praise in precise ways to motivate children to behave in positive ways. Staff share their expectations very clearly with children, who remind each other of the group rules. Children behave exceptionally well.
- The manager has excellent insight into the nursery’s strengths and weaknesses and has set highly accurate goals to build ongoing improvement.
Nursery Manager, Sarah Burge, commented: “We are very proud to have been judged as Outstanding by Ofsted in all areas during our Ofsted inspection in October 2018. This is testament to the whole nursery community. Staff here at North Cheam are extremely committed and passionate about the children in our care and this shone through during our inspection. Of course this could not have been possible without our lovely children who with the support and care from the amazing team continuously strive for excellence. The children who spoke to inspector came across as being very confident, articulate and most importantly happy learners. It was very emotional listening to what the inspector had to say about their behaviour and positive attitudes. Finally I would like to thank our parents for their support over the years, without it this outstanding wouldn’t have been possible.”
