Chiswick nursery visited by Japanese Embassy

Date: 20 Apr 2018

Bright Horizons Active Learning Chiswick nursery hosted representatives from the Japanese Embassy last week.

The nursery was visited by: Hiroshi Itakura, Secretary for Culture and Education; Hanako Senoo, a headteacher from Okayama; Dr Miki Yuzawa, associate professor of infant education at Notre Dame Seishin University in Okayama.

“It was an opportunity to discuss pedagogy and quality education,” said Nursery Manager Conor Bathgate. “The visitors were particularly impressed with the high level of quality observed within the nursery and particularly the robust and effective monitoring systems in place. The visitors discussed Eastern collectivist philosophy versus Western individualism and how this shapes our practice. We also discussed internal and external regulation differences between Japan and the UK and Miss Hanako and I discussed once she returns to Japan maybe we could organise a nursery pen pal scheme between our schools to help the children's understanding of the world.”

Itakura stated that he would be recommending Bright Horizons as a provider of exceptional childcare within the embassy and hopes to visit again in the future.
