Children at Bright Horizons Fleet Day Nursery and Preschool in Hampshire recently created elephant toothpaste in an exercise part of the organisation’s Growing Scientists enhancement.
The children initially discussed the importance of wearing protective clothing during science experiments and looked at a variety of ingredients including hydrogen peroxide, washing up liquid, yeast and food colouring.
“We smelled the yeast and discussed how we used washing up liquid to clean our dishes,” said Deputy Nursery Manager Kelly Smith. “We then used a funnel to mix all the ingredients into a bottle and watched as it foamed out looking like elephant toothpaste.”
Bright Horizons’ Growing Scientists enhancement aims to help children identify scientific activities that occur in their everyday lives.
