Children at Bright Horizons Crewe Day Nursery and Preschool have been embracing their mud kitchen in recent times.
The children have looked at recipe books and as a result created different textures and consistencies, adding herbs and other delights.
“The children always really enjoy using the mud kitchen,” said Nursery Manager Claire Chadwick. “Some of them have also decided they want to write their own recipe book for the mud kitchen.”
Mud kitchens provide many benefits for young children including through personal and social development as a result of giggling after the mud moves. They can also improve communication and language as the children use words to play in and describe the mud. A mud kitchen can also aid physical development, as the children use their hands to make marks in the mud.
