Dyce nursery children embrace apples experiment

Date: 17 Aug 2017

Children at Bright Horizons Dyce Early Learning and Childcare nursery in Aberdeen recently chose to take part in an experiment using apples, as part of the organisation’s Growing Scientists enhancement.

The children cut the apples into slices and put them in separate bowls of water mixed with salt, sugar, syrup and one just with water. The children were then asked which apple they thought would disintegrate first.

“We then revisited the apples two weeks later and found that the bowls with water and syrup had mould on them,” said Nursery Manager Rhona Jamieson. “We spoke about how the apples looked and smelt.”

Bright Horizons’ Growing Scientists enhancement aims to help children identify scientific activities that occur in everyday life.
