Edinburgh nursery children study caterpillar life cycle
Date: 24 May 2017
Children at Bright Horizons Elsie Inglis Nursery and Preschool in Edinburgh have been busy studying the life cycle of a caterpillar.
The children ordered their own caterpillars to the nursery, as part of a growing interest in life cycles of different species. They first looked at the seeds of the caterpillar and how to care for them specifically, while also studying pictures of different stages of the life cycle.“They learned to order the different stages by completing charts and creating a display with representations of the life cycle of the butterfly,” said Deputy Nursery Manager Kate Hubbert. “They watched as the caterpillars created their cocoons. We are now waiting patiently to watch as they transition into butterflies.”
