Beckenham children plant runner bean seeds

Date: 16 May 2017

Children at Bright Horizons New Beckenham Day Nursery in Kent have recently planted their own runner bean seeds as part of the organisation’s Green Gardeners enhancement.

The children will now water the seeds on a daily basis and watch them grow. They were also part of a discussion on other fruits and vegetables that can be grown.

“The children have also explored different liquids to see if they will mix together or stay in layers,” said Nursery Manager Vicky Thompson. “They used ink on tissues paper and then dipped it into water and watched the colours run up the paper. We are going to try this again with filter paper and see if it works better.”

The Green Gardeners enhancement aims to encourage the children’s interest in the natural world around them.
