Children at Bright Horizons North Cheam Day Nursery and Preschool in Sutton were excited to use their new kitchen for the first time last week.
The children made some sweet snacks as part of Bright Horizons’ Creative Cooks Enhancement, which they were able to take home and share with family and friends. The new kitchen came about as part of a recent refurbishment at the site. Nursery Manager Sarah Burge said all of the children thoroughly enjoyed using the new facilities.
“Cooking is a fantastic activity for young children,” said Burge. “They can learn and practice a wide range of skills and it helps to give them an understanding of where food comes from. Being able to cook is a great skill to have and while it can feel like a chore to adults, it’s an exciting and fun activity for children. It’s also a way to get children interested in food in general, or to help children with food issues feel comfortable with ingredients they don’t currently eat.”
The Creative Cooks Enhancement encourages children to be creative in cooking.
