Children at Bright Horizons Tiny Toes Nursery in Hemel Hempstead have been getting into the Halloween spirit by growing their own pumpkin, as part of the Green Gardeners programme.
The children were inspired to grow their own pumpkin after reading the story “Pumpkin Soup” by Helen Cooper. They have also drawn their own pumpkins as part of the Growing Artists programme.
“The children are keeping the pumpkin until Halloween when they will all learn how to make pumpkin soup themselves,” said Rosemary Quint, nursery manager.
The Green Gardeners programme aims to cultivate the children’s interest in the natural world around them, while the Growing Artists programmes encourages creativity in art.
