Children at Bright Horizons Teddies Greenwich Nursery and Preschool have taken a trip to a local park where they recorded the number of butterflies present.

The children used a tally chart and different mathematical equipment, including rulers and counting aids, to conduct the activity which was part of Bright Horizons’ Growing Mathematicians programme. Upon returning to the nursery, the children matched the numerals to the quantities they had counted.

“The children had lots of fun outdoors counting the butterflies,” said Loraine Thorpe, nursery manager. “It was a great way to continue our Growing Mathematicians programme.”

The Growing Mathematicians programme supports children to understand the purpose and importance of maths in everyday life.
