Crewe children create treasure maps

Date: 11 Aug 2016

Children at Bright Horizons Crewe Day Nursery and Preschool have been creating their own treasure maps as part of the organisation’s Growing Writers and Growing Readers programmes.

After a number of children became interested in pirates, they spent time studying the shapes and symbols of real treasure maps before creating their own. The children were also able to explore the use of tea bags as a mark making tool, to add effect to their treasure maps.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed creating their treasure maps,” said Nursery Manager Claire Chadwick. “They were excited to then go outside and they, after sailing on a homemade boat, were able to find a sandy island to dig and find their own treasure.”

The Growing Writers programme supports the child on their magical journey to become a creative writer, while the Growing Readers programme helps nurture reading ability and enhance an interest in books.
