Children at Bright Horizons Ladbroke Grove Day Nursery in Notting Hill, London have been making space rockets to take part in an imaginary space race.

The children used their plastic bottles and cups they have been collecting through the recycling centre project at the nursery, in order to create the rockets.

The activity was part of the Bright Horizons Growing Scientists programme, which aims to help children identify scientific activities that occur each day.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed the rocket making activity and were able to put their recycling initiatives to good use by re-using bottles for a different purpose,” said Nursery Manager Beverley Smith. “As well as the Growing Scientists programme, the children were also able to practise their writing and numbers as part of both the Growing Writers and Growing Mathematicians programmes.”
