A very hungry caterpillar eats its way into a nursery
Date: 01 Dec 2015
The Children from Bright Horizons Elvetham Heath Nursery and Preschool Nursery in Fleet had lots of fun when reading one of the most popular children’s book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, by Eric Carle.
The children enjoyed the story about a caterpillar which ate lots of various food to become a beautiful butterfly, as part of the nursery’s Growing Readers programme, which looks to looks to teach the children about the world around them and helps to cultivate a love of great books from a young age. They also created their own caterpillars by using play dough and painted colourful butterflies during a fun filled art session.
Nursery Manager, Dawn Moore, said: “In addition to being a great story with fabulous pictures, the book covers many elements of learning such as basic science (metamorphosis), maths (counting skills, concept of time) and language (colours, days of the week, adjectives, etc.) which makes it a great book for all-round learning. Following on from the reading many of the children have asked their parents for the book so they can read it again at home.”
