Gardening Club
Bright Horizons Gardening Club is a hands-on, active gardening activity designed to give children an introduction to nature and the process of growing their own food.
Nurseries with Gardening Clubs typically have a small vegetable patch that the children help to plan and create, picking which plants they would like to grow, sowing the seeds, taking care of the plants, through to eventually harvesting the vegetables for nursery mealtimes.
Along the way there are so many learning opportunities; what are fruits/vegetables/herbs? What are the differences between them? What birds, animals and insects live in the garden? How do different seasons affect the garden? Gardening Club also introduces bigger concepts of the natural world such as wildlife, recycling and the eco-system.
Activities include; identifying plants, designing a garden, sowing seeds, watering plants, making a bird feeder and the super popular ‘Mini-beasties Hunt’ (insects!).
