Back-Up Care

Occasionally, even the best-laid plans can change.

An ill child, a nanny on holiday or an elderly relative requiring support are exactly the kind of daily ‘flash-points’ that have the potential to negatively impact on your employee, their colleagues and ultimately your business.

Back-up Care from Bright Horizons is the perfect solution to one-off ‘breakdowns’ in care.

With just one phone call your employee can reach one of our trained Care Consultants, who will;

  • Listen to their requirements
  • Agree on a best solution
  • Source and secure that solution for them

We developed our Back-up Care solution as a direct response to clients who told us that they wanted to reduce absenteeism, support flexible working and increase their employees’ productivity and engagement levels.

In order to measure the tangible benefits of Employer- Sponsored Back-Up Care to business, in 2010 the Bright Horizons Consulting Practice conducted a survey of 14 leading UK organisations providing this service.

The results were overwhelming positive:

  • 89% of respondents indicated that they were able to work on a day they would otherwise not have been able to due to the provision of employer-sponsored back-up care
  • On average, employees were able to work an extra six days due to the availability of back-up care
  • 93% of respondents felt that back-up care had a positive effect on their productivity as they were able to concentrate on their tasks
  • 82% of respondents stated they were willing to give extra effort to help their organisation succeed as a result of the provision of back-up care

The study also found that the provision of employer-sponsored back-up care positively impacted on recruitment and retention efforts:

  • 92% of respondents reported that the provision of employer-sponsored back-up care would be an important factor when considering a job change
  • 62% of respondents reported access to back-up child care to be an important factor in their decision to join their company

Overall, the study demonstrated that employer-sponsored back-up care is a highly valued benefit which positively impacts on recruitment, retention and productivity whilst bringing peace of mind and practical support to working families.

Back-up care from Bright Horizons provides that ‘extra pair of hands’ just when your employee needs it the most – a hassle free, safety net of reliable care options that let us take the strain – never your employees, or your business.

"This is fantastic if you are a working Mum. If you have no child care at the last minute and still have important meetings that must be attended it takes the stress out of how you provide for your children and meet your work commitments. Normally I would have no other choice than to take time off as it is not possible for me to get childcare at short notice from anywhere else"

“The backup childcare is a great benefit, it was easy and reassuring that my child was being looked after safely nearby and I was able to work without missing any meetings. A great idea!”
